You're looking at a future film director. At least we'd all be surprised if he chose auto mechanics.
See that Flip in his hand? It's a permanent fixture, sometimes part of his daily attire. He has scenes and scripts playing out in his mind on a regular basis, and he's always reading whatever he can get his hands on about how the process works.
So, we weren't entirely surprised the other day, when he needed his whole family to act/support in some footage that was crutial to a movie that he's making. But, wow, aren't we right in the heat of packing up our entire house for a cross-country move, here? It would be so easy to say "Not right now", or "That's a great idea that we'll do right after we're settled in our new place."
It would be so easy to say those things. But if we did, this window, this one, would be closed and lost forever.
We chose to leave our late, hot dinner waiting on the dining table. We chose to walk past the boxes, out the front door and into our boy's world.
He directed everyone in his role.
The actors took their places:
The man in the van,
One boy lying in the ditch, and the other boy hiding in the grass. Everyone was ready.
The director gave the thumbs up. That meant "Action!" for the man in the van down the street who can't hear from there.
Good work, everyone!
And now, from the other direction:
Excellent!
And finally, some footage of the street from inside the van as it drove down the road:
I hope that we remember times like this the next time we're in a swarm of busy-ness.
It only takes 15 minutes.
But its meaning is for a lifetime.
